Course Description

This course provides physiotherapists and healthcare professionals with a practical, evidence-informed framework for classifying spinal curves and applying this classification to clinical decision-making.

Building on current research and best practice, participants will develop the knowledge and confidence to identify different curve patterns, understand their clinical implications, and provide appropriate advice and corrective strategies from the first consultation.

The course places a strong emphasis on practical application, including curve classification, overcorrection principles, and day-to-day stabilisation strategies that can be incorporated into early patient management.

Course Objectives

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Differentiate between functional scoliosis and Scheuermann’s kyphosis and recognise their key clinical features.
  • Understand and apply the eight PSSE curve classifications.
  • Explain the importance of accurate curve classification in guiding assessment and treatment.
  • Understand the principles of overcorrection, including what it means and why it is used.
  • Identify when and how overcorrection may be appropriate for different curve patterns.
  • Apply classification principles to practical clinical examples and case studies.
  • Develop appropriate day-to-day stabilisation and corrective strategies that can be introduced from the first consultation.
  • Translate classification findings into clear, practical advice for patients and their rehabilitation programmes.

Course Recommendation:

Haven’t watched Part One yet?

We recommend starting with Part One: “Scoliosis Fundamentals – The Initial Assessment” before moving on to this Part Two. It is important to build the foundations and understand the three dimensional components of scoliosis before tackling the next step.

Who Should Attend?

This course is suitable for:

  1. Physiotherapists working with patients with scoliosis and spinal conditions.
  2. Physiotherapy students and new graduates looking to develop their clinical assessment skills.
  3. Healthcare professionals with an interest in scoliosis assessment and management.
  4. Rehabilitation professionals seeking to improve their confidence in classifying curves and applying practical corrective strategies.
