Course Description

As clinicians we are required to understand a spectrum of mobilities, from the extremely stiff or hypomobile patient to the poorly controlled hypermobile (HSD, hEDS) patient, often associated with a multitude of different associated connective tissue co-morbidities, of varying severity.

The stiff patient presents with poor flexibility; a loss of range and function & pain associated with immobility. They benefit from stretching & deep fascial releases.

The patient with Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder (HSD) or hypermobile Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (hEDS) presents with poor movement control & pain & loss of function from too much segmental (joint) translation, which irritates joint, meniscal, ligamentous & labral structures. They benefit from a stabilising program & rehabilitation that improves force closure & control of translation across joint surfaces.

Misdiagnosing & therefore treating a patient with the incorrect strategies can only lead to poor outcomes, frustration & disappointment for the patient, potentially leading them down a path of chronic & persistent or recurrent pain.

Attend this live webinar with Tanya to learn to clinically differentiate which patient is which, so that diagnosis & therefore management is more evidence-based with far better results and patient satisfaction and relief.

This webinar will include video’s of release techniques, as well as recommended progressive treatment strategies for patients presenting with different movement & mobility strategies from the extremely stiff to poorly controlled hypermobile.

Managing HSD/HeDS

This talk was exceptionally helpful in learning how to assess and differentiate the difference between HSD and a stiff patient. It also gave a lot of useful tips on how the management will be different between the two types. Tanya was able to give both theoretical and practical knowledge on this topic.

Where the presenting patient is on the scale between stiffness and hypermobility

I so appreciated exposure to the methods of assessing whether a patient is a "Stiffie" a "Normie" or a "Rubber-band" in order to set up a goal orientated, highly individual management plan.
