Course Description
Effective communication is a cornerstone of ethical practice in Physiotherapy care of patients belonging to diverse backgrounds. Understanding and making ourselves understood to patients of various cultures, ethnicities, socioeconomic status, religions , abilities and disabilities, mental health, ages and gender preferences such as LGBTQIA+ plays a pivotal role in patient outcomes.
This course focuses on effective communication strategies applicable to diverse clientele with real life examples with aim to provide equitable Physiotherapy treatment.
Learning objectives
At the end of the session the participant will be able to
- Effectively identify communication barriers
- Adapt communication strategies such as active listening, visual supports,and many others applicable to diverse populations
- Apply Ethical considerations in patient communication with focus on confidentiality, inclusivity and accountability.
- Practice effective communication strategies based on an example case study
